Therapy Isn’t Just for a Crisis: It Can Be About Growth

Therapy can be approached from a growth and depth perspective, not just a healing standpoint. I don’t believe everybody needs therapy. Yet therapy can be a wonderful tool for creating more fulfilling relationships, a more satisfying career, or a more authentic way of living in the world.
As a therapist licensed for over 13 years, I’ve learned to dig a little deeper under the phrase, “I’m fine.” More people are coming into therapy not because they’re in a high level of distress, but because they want to understand themselves more deeply and change problematic patterns before they turn into a crisis.
I often work with women who are managing life well but want to respond to challenges differently. Some are finally in a stable enough place to process past trauma. Others aren’t in crisis at all. They simply feel unfulfilled and want a deeper sense of purpose, direction, and connection to the life they’re creating.
Therapy can also be a place to ask: What do I actually want? What patterns am I ready to outgrow? What would make my life feel more like mine?
Some good things to work on in therapy include better boundaries, ending people-pleasing, self-discovery, confidence, dating, sexual fulfillment, inner peace, stronger friendships, money confidence, stress management, emotional resilience, feeling more alive, and living more authentically.
You don’t have to wait until your life is falling apart to want something more from it.
